Introducing the greenBOX VAC PACK
The greenBOX VAC PACK allows you to connect sensors from eight room vacuum valves (or eight sensors from workstations connected to the vacuum system) while supporting pressure, air volume, and air velocity measurements. What are Central Industrial Vacuum Systems?
The industrial vacuum systems are used for point source capture of industrial dust, and/or general housekeeping for work area clean-up. Most often they are used in pharmaceutical factories, chemical production, and battery production.
As the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards do not recommend using compressed air for housekeeping in an industrial environment (with some exemptions), more and more facilities are installing central vacuum cleaning systems.
These central vacuum systems provide intense cleaning power. In addition to standard dirt and dust removal, they are also used in hazardous waste pickup, liquid spill pickup, fume removal, recyclable goods collection etc.
The central vacuum systems distribute vacuum power throughout buildings of any size, even multi-acre industrial sites. It is not uncommon to see central vacuum systems with over one hundred drops (drop: the location where you can connect a hose to use a vacuum system).
How can Ecogate Improve Central Industrial Vacuum Systems?
Start & Stop of the Vacuum System On-demand
Almost all central vacuum systems are running vacuum pumps with large AC motors all shift-time (or even all-time). The Ecogate on-demand system starts the vacuum pump on demand by using a limit switch at the room manual inlet valve or by Ecogate Volt Sensor connected to the machine producing dust. Similarly, as with Ecogate on-demand industrial ventilation, energy-efficiency is three to four times less expensive compared to the expenses it takes to generate the same amount of electricity (saved by the Ecogate system).
Maintaining Minimal Transport Air Velocities
Almost all central vacuum systems are not maintaining minimal transport air velocities in the entire dust system. There are two problems with this approach: firstly, if material transported in the duct system is combustible and air velocities are not maintained, it can lead to fire or explosions - thus the system is not safe. The second problem is that such systems require regular cleaning inside the duct system, which is significantly expensive and must be done in regular intervals, usually every fourteen days. Failure to do so, you risk the system to jam by settled dust resulting in a system not working.
How can Ecogate Systems maintain minimal transport air velocities in vacuum system:
The central computer greenBOX is informed about each use of room outlet (by the limit switch) and each workstation connected to the system.
Ecogate butterfly gates are used as a bleed gates for maintaining minimal transport air velocities in each branch of central vacuum systems
In on-demand industrial ventilation systems, the control computer greenBOX will open additional gates at drops that are not in use to maintain minimum transport air velocities.
At the central vacuum system this is not possible because manual room valves are used (and therefore the greenBOX computer cannot open them). We are using so-called “bleed gates”. They are installed at strategic locations at all branches of the vacuum system. If only a few room vacuum drops are open and air velocity does not reach minimum transport air velocity, the control computer greenBOX will open one or more bleed gates until minimum transport air velocity is reached.
Smaller Vacuum Pumps Can Handle More Drops
The same principle as in industrial ventilation systems applies here: if the utilization of a vacuum systems' drops is lower than 100%, a smaller vacuum pump can serve more drops. This is a significant benefit especially for larger vacuum systems.
