278 Combustible Dust Incidents Recorded in 2018

213 fires and 65 explosions. That’s how many combustible dust incidents were recorded in 2018, according to the 2018 Combustible Dust Incident Report by DustSafetyScience.com.

It is not clear what exactly initiated each fire or explosion. However, each of these incidents did mention that the accumulation of sawdust made the damages greater, since the fire was able to spread more rapidly throughout the building.

Many incidents were reported to have damages over $1 million with a few reaching up to $20 million.
